As I looked at him for the first time I finally GOT that verse in Proverbs 17:6:

“Children’s children are a crown to the aged.” (Proverbs 17:6)

We can have everything in the world–all of the stuff, all of the accomplishments, all of the possessions–everything. Yet, when the music fades and all is stripped away, only a few things really matter.

I have lived a life that has been sooo blessed. God has blessed me with so many amazing blessings. I cannot think that the cost for those blessings has been a big sacrifice for me when God has even made that EASY! All He has required is that I obey Him and offer my life as a daily sacrifice, doing what HE asks. How hard is that? Especially, when I look at the abundant and lavish blessings that just chase me down.

Yes. I have been blessed in so many areas of my life:

1. Yes, I have had a wonderful marriage. This year we celebrate 25 years of marriage. Talk about an awesome blessing!

2. Yes, I have two amazing children here on earth and 7 in heaven. I could not be MORE blessed by their lives. Every moment of being a mom has been a treasure.

3. Yes, I have been blessed by success. I have written over 100 books, taught all around the country, ran a wonderful business (well, how hard is that when your business is all about connecting with wonderful FRIENDS???), and achieved almost everything I have ever set out to achieve.

We have been blessed in

…relationships
…provision
…success
…and anything we could ever want.

Yesterday, I saw the realization of my “crown.” One that I will carry all of the way into eternity. I am overcome by the beauty of legacy!

I know that I have taught for years about how vital it is for us to KNOW that we are building a HOME and that home is our legacy. I THOUGHT I had GOT IT through the years, but as I held my precious Joshua, my first GRANDchild, I realized it in a deeper level.

Everything is about our legacy! EVERYTHING! E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G!

Our legacy is the only earthly treasure that we can carry with us into eternity. It is ETERNAL. Soak that in, dear friend!

Yes, we can go back into Scripture and see that every woman has a legacy. It is what summed up their lives. It is what passed down into the next generation and the next and the next and the next…all the way to us.

It is the ONE THING that was accomplished by their lives. Good or bad, every one of us passes on a legacy that goes on through generations that we may not see and into parts of their lives and all of the lives that they touch. It goes on into eternity–forever and forever.

I am sure that after I die, people will forget the words that I wrote. In fact, it cracks me up when people already forget the things that God gave me to write first–guess we all need to eat “humble-pie” from time to time.

I already know that when I look back over my life and all that I do and accomplish that the things that I DO have a tendency to look like a beach full of sand–each “to-do” as distinquishable as a grain of sand and all of the “to-do’s” piling up like a beach full of sand. Funny thing, I have a tendency to LOVE those things to do and pour myself into my precious “to-do’s” like a little child intent on building a sand-castle. I KNOW that all of those to-do’s can matter in life, but I also know that there is nothing like the waves rolling in and quickly washing away those “sand-castles.” Again, nothing is quite like seeing how everything is but a vapor. Everything just goes back into the everyday-ness of life.

But, my legacy lives on!

I don’t know if words are sufficient today. I hope that I am making sense to you guys. I LOVE MY LIFE. I am really picky about the things that I DO. I know that this life comes by only once. I don’t want to waste even ONE MOMENT doing something that is not going to count, much less something that is not right. I know that I will not even be RIGHT HERE again. I want to live each moment to the fullest and make my Abba Papa proud of me. I want to bring Him glory and honor. But, this is even MORE….

It is LEGACY!

We are here for so much more than we can ever imagine. OUR LIVES COUNT!

Soak that in…

Every choice that we make affects more than just ourselves or those that we see. There are multitudes coming behind us that NEED for us to be ALL THERE today, making every moment count.

As I look into the sweet face of our little Joshua, I can already see how important everything HAS been. As he looks at me, I feel the immense call rising up yet again–Cindy, BUILD YOUR LEGACY!

How can I forget??? I have the biggest news of the week! ha!

Joshua Edwin Rushton, the most GRAND child in the world, was born yesterday after 27.5 hours of labor for Whitney and Matthew. Talk about an amazing and awesome little one! Here are his stats:

Weight: 8lb, 1oz
Length: 20 1/2in.
Looks: GORGEOUS!
Brilliance: ULTIMATE
Attitude: THE SWEETEST EVER!!
Overall status: GRAND!!!!

I am in bliss. We have already begun our “Grammy-talks” yesterday. And, yes, he was communicating BACK. He is just exponentially more amazing than anything I have ever seen. Did you have a super weekend? I pray so! I had a see-saw weekend. It was very good and very scary! That is what this email is all about.

My sweetheart had a crazy thing happen Friday night. I just got out of the doctor’s office and we have no idea still what happened, but he woke up unable to breathe in or out. His throat was swollen all the way shut. He could not breathe in or out at all. It was the most frightening thing I have ever experienced. I felt completely helpless. It was awful to see him struggle to breathe. It was a miracle that he didn’t die in front of me. Just awful!

It eased off over two hours. Today, the doctor is as puzzled as ever. He is leaning toward an allergic reaction to something (spider, etc) or possibly (because of his age) a weakening in his throat. Sooo, you guys pray for him and obviously me–I have been so edgy in my sleep since then. It is scary, scary.

Now for the upside—we were in MS this weekend planning and getting things ready for a big celebration for my in-laws 50th Wedding Anniversary. We had such a sweet time with them. They are sooo funny! I hope we are as cute when we have been married 50 years.

We are soooo proud of them. We enjoyed the time going through family pictures (for generations! WINK). I was able to scan them into my computer–what a sweet treat! I am going to put together a slide-show (I will upload it to Facebook/YouTube when I get it ready).

It was such a blessing to go over the stories of their life-story together. Watch over the next few weeks as I share some things on my heart about the legacy that they have built and are passing on to us and obviously to our children and our children’s children. I am just full to overflowing. It is a big, big thing to be married for 50 years in our culture. Just stay posted for all of my musings. I think you will enjoy it! PLUS! You will LOVE my 80’s hair! hehe!

One other thing…as we were coming home last night, I got a call and my sweet Elisabeth was in a car wreck. She was hit broad-side (driver’s side) and her car was totalled out. She is ok, but in real pain today. I am trying to help her with all of the details to get everything handled. Can we say, “YUCK!” Keep her in your prayers. I am a bit mushy today after the situation with Harold and Elisabeth. We are so blessed each and every day of our lives. It is so easy to take little things like sleeping or traveling mercies for granted. I am getting a crash-course in how to let go of even the great things to take care of my most precious gifts–my family.

Well, that brings me to my note to you guys. My sweet family needed me to help them during my normal preparation time this weekend. So, we will not be having our regular Tuesday Talk-a-Latte Chat this week. I am so sorry!

Also, I have a million things that I need to do to take care of all of these details. Soooo, what if we take a few weeks off of our live sessions? I SO love our live chats, but the next few weeks are going to be very crazy and demanding. It should not take long to get everything taken care of for Elisabeth, but I am going to be her personal chauffeur the next few weeks until we get her settled back down.

I promise to make this hiatus a short one and come back with a fun “Back to School Blast” and some other fun sessions for all of you. Also, this will help me to slow down and finish my new revision of Language Arts the Easy Way in time for the new school year. Yep! There it is! Publically committed to all of you dear friends. I have been snagging time in secret to work on the new version. I don’t have much more to finish for it to be ready to launch.

So, what do you think? I will work hard to get all of this ready and then we will have some fun preview chats with all of you counting down to the big release day. In those I can answer all of your questions and go over everything in more detail.

Today we live in a culture where there is such a void for godly parenting examples. I remember being a young mommy wondering how to handle all of the curve balls that came my way along the journey. You may be saying, “Well, what about FAMILY?” But, in our culture today, THAT can be THE PROBLEM!

That brings me to our Mommy Homework for the week…

I just got this great MH question in my inbox. I love it! Here is the question…

How do you encourage parents to step up to the plate and be THE PARENT? For example: following through on what their child is told to do, telling their child “No” and not making excuses for their behavior, having their children respect your rules.

My friend wrote this:

…I have some friends who are newer Christians. They don’t have good family examples, and are parents to a 4-year-old child. They worry that they are not doing enough for their child yet they make the child the center of their lives. Sometimes, we feel like second parents for this child. We are not perfect parents to our children, but we are trying. I don’t want them to depend on us, I want them to learn from God and depend upon Him.

First, thanks so much to this dear friend for sending in this question. I really appreciate the background so that we can all brainstorm together. Sooo, that brings me to our Mommy Homework for this week–Parenting the Parents.

In Scripture, Titus 2 brings us the call to teach others how to love their children (among other things, of course). Parenting is such an incredible calling. So many young (and old) parents today have NO IDEA how to parent their children. Many simply react from poor models in their own childhood homes–from permissive parents to very abusive parents to very inconsistent parents. They have no idea what a godly home looks like, much less how to parent by God’s design. In fact, few have any idea that God DOES have a design for the godly home and parenting children.

How do we come alongside of others to help them learn how to BE THE PARENT?
How do WE set the example before them?
How do we exhort them without being offensive OR just walking away ourselves and leaving them without our influence?
