Hello Mommy Pals!

October 30, 2007

October 30, 2007

Hey There Mommy Pals!

We have had a blast around here this week!

You probably noticed in our last ezine that we are gearing up for our online High School seminar. Oh! I can barely contain my excitement over this event! Last week, we began preparing for the seminar by recording one of our workshops live during a Talk-a-Latte chat. If you missed it, we are offering it as a free gift in this ezine. Don’t miss this audio! As I sat there listening to Felice, I realized in a new way how vital these years are for our children to have the ANSWERS that our culture needs.

Yes, our culture is looking for answers. Our God has them! Just think about that for moment! Then, think about the awesome privilege that we have before us during the homeschool years to really dig for the answers and impart them to our children. Then, they will meet our culture with real answers. The neat thing is that it is not all about US! They have the Ultimate teacher! Isaiah 54 says it like this:

“All your sons will be taught by the LORD, and great will be your children’s peace.” Isaiah 54:13 NIV

Does that fire you up too?

Have no idea what to say when asked about evolution…creation?  Well, you simply MUST check out our audio gift this week! It is fabulous! It will get you on the right track.

Also! PLEASE don’t shy away from our audios! I am including a precious email that came in this week that I want for you to see below. Maybe you have just skipped the audios because you have dial-up internet? Maybe you thought they cost too much? Well, they are a gift to you each and every week. We WANT for you to enjoy them. If you have a dial-up, I want to suggest that you look at my blog (link is below) where we also post the audios. Go there and simply CLICK on the audio. Let it stream. Our site is set up to play live on the internet. It will detect your computer download speed and adjust for it. If you don’t have a good software program to use for audios, try my pick: http://www.iTunes.com.  I LOVE iTunes! You will too! Make use of our audios. Today’s is an absolute MUST!

Talking about musts…this week our article is short and sweet (hence a little longer editorial here).  I have read this one over and over and over. It just reminds me to make the most of these precious days. This is my daughter’s Senior Year. It is full of sweet moments. I am really endeavoring to stay focused on the essential…the eternal. This week our article will help you to do the same. Read it several times and just soak it in!

Finally!

We are now counting down days until our online High School  seminar. Don’t miss this one! We have tickets on sale now. We have also set up a way for you to join if you want to check out our seminars. You can join us live complimentary! Sign up today and make plans to join us for all of our workshops. They are the best ever! Just see our information below!

Well, ready for the ezine? I am! So…without any further ado, get ready for a fun issue! Just grab a big cup of tea…or hot chocolate…and let’s dig in for a fun mom-time!

Happy homeschooling!

From the Mailbag…

Cindy.  I cannot tell you in words (least of all typed ones) how much you have blessed me this day.  The other day (last Tuesday actually) I was at my parent’s and I finally got to look at your Mom2Mom Radio Show page (after being part of the History Super Seminar and not even listening to ANY of the Mp3s yet because I hadn’t the time to download them with my dialup connection) and I used their highspeed to download all these wonderful talks you have put together… and STILL didn’t listen to them.  They were stuck in my flash drive… SO I finally, yesterday, bought a small cheap Mp3 player with headphones… and all day today, while doing our running around that vaguely resembles carschool, while the kids listened to one audio book… I listened to you.  I had you and Terri talkin’ up a storm about timelines and history and how positive and upbeat and gracious and humble you are… and it reminded me that once upon a time, I too had some of those fruit of the spirit in my life… and lately, with all the running, appointments (I am injured, and my daughter has many appointments and activities, or so it feels), I just feel so… I don’t know.  Unhappy, ungrateful, UNgracious… and the Enemy knows when I’m down, and just fires those fiery darts like crazy to make ME think I’m crazy… but today… well, today there was you.  Talking to me on my earphones , telling me that life CAN be crazy, and I don’t have to BE crazy because of it…

Thank you.  I hope in a tiny little way you can read my babble and get some sense of how much you blessed me today.  I’m going to be living with headphones on just being uplifted with your godly example of what a mom, a HOMESCHOOL mom, should be like.  Thank you… thank you thank you thank you!!!!!

(And NOW tonight I’m off to my parent’s to get MORE goodies to listen to! LOL!)

Be SO blessed, Cindy!

Counting for Eternity? by Cris Loop

By Cris Loop

http://www.ChristianPerspective.net

As I approach my last year of official homeschooling (my baby is now a senior), I am finding myself contemplating what really matters in homeschooling. What about homeschooling will count for eternity? Good grades and academic knowledge? Or a complete trust in God and dependence on Him?

My homeschooling years have sped by quicker than I have thought possible. Looking back, I see how many times I got off course and placed my focus on things that don’t really count for eternity, such as academics and activities. I often tried to live up the standards of the school system instead of to God’s high calling that I would know and depend on Him in everything.

I want to encourage you to invest each precious day you have at home with your children into things that matter. When all is said and done, it will not matter how high or low your children’s test scores are, nor how successful or unsuccessful they are by the world’s standards. Have your children learned to see God in all they do? Have they seen you depending on Him? May we each ask God to help us make today count for eternity.

Meet Cris Loop

Cris Loop began officially homeschooling back in 1988. She initially felt unqualified to teach her children because she doesn’t have a college degree! God, however, gave her Isaiah 54:13, promising that He would teach her children. Over the years, she watched God prove Himself sufficient to teach not only her children, but her as well. Now that her children have both graduated, Cris can look back at her homeschooling years and share the lessons that God taught (and is still teaching) her. She helps operate an online ministry to homeschool families called Christian Perspective. Christian Perspective offers unique holiday devotionals, homeschool articles/resources, free monthly newsletters, and information on teaching math from a biblical perspective. Their mission is to help families “Seek the LORD, and his strength” (Psalm 105:4) in every aspect of life. You can find out more or sign up for their free newsletters on their website, www.christianperspective.net.

Why Teach Creation and Evolution???

with Felice Gerwitz

Did you miss our Preview Chat with Felice Gerwitz, from http://MediaAngels.com? It was FABULOUS!

Felice taught us all about why and how to teach our teens so they have a good understanding the creation/evolution bias in the world at large. In this workshop, she shared with us how teens can become equipped to deal with evolution taught as fact, even at some Christian colleges. Plus, she taught us what we, as parents, can do to arm our teens with knowledge and facts! If that is not enough, as you tune into this workshop, you will get glean some of the super things that Felice did with her teens when they were in high school. One jam-packed session!

Don’t miss this awesome session!

How Do You Recover from Disaster? By Rick Warren

October 29, 2007

2007/10/29

How Do You Recover From Disaster?
by Rick Warren

Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. (Matthew 5:4 NIV)
This past week, many of us have watched as the worst disaster in Southern California history has unfolded. It will take years to recover. You may live far away from California, but more than likely you’ll face some form of hardship in your life (you may even be facing one now). In this guest devotional, Pastor Rick Warren explains three biblical principles for recovering from any disaster:

First, release your grief
Maybe you’ve wept as you witnessed the horrible losses of life and property in California. Maybe you’ve lost a family member or a home or business yourself. When you face a crisis, it’s normal to feel all sorts of emotions – fear, anger, worry, depression, resentment, helplessness, grief.

It does no good to stuff emotions or deny they exist. God created us to feel emotions, and he doesn’t expect us to act happy when we’re grieving. Jesus said, “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” That means it is OK to be honest about our grief. “Pour out your heart to him, for God is our refuge.” (Psalms 62:8 NLT) God wants to comfortus in tragedy. He is close to the broken-hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

Second, receive help from others
It’s a huge mistake to isolate yourself when you’re going through a crisis. We all need the support, encouragement, and presence of other people, particularly in the aftermath of tragedy. The Bible tells us that when we carry one another’s burdens, we obey the Law of Christ. (Galatians 6:2)

Third, reject the urge to be bitterness
Some people become bitter when faced with hardship – but bitterness is a choice we make. You don’t have to be bitter. If you choose bitterness, you’ll only end up hurting yourself – and you’ll shut the door on happiness because you can’t be happy and bitter at the same time.

What now?

· Your response to disaster is a choice – As I’ve watched television interviews related to the California wildfires, there are some victims who say, “We lost it all, and we’re sad, but we’re still together as a family, and we’re going to work together and rebuild.” Yet others say, “My life is over! I just don’t see how I can go on from here; I don’t think I can ever recover from this.” It’s not an easy choice, but it is a choice between believing God is still in control or believing you’re on your own.

· Your joy comes from God, not your circumstances – There’s absolutely no correlation in life between your circumstances and your joy. None whatsoever! Joy comes from within. It is based on who you trust, not what you see or feel. When you give your grief to God, he is faithful to comfort you (Matthew 5:4).
· Focus on what you have – When you experience disaster, focus on what you still have, not on what’s lost. Tell God you’re thankful for what you still have. Make a list of all the good things inyour life. Personally, I find it is impossible to be grateful and depressed at the same time.

Speaking of High School…

I have a SUPER issue of our ezine here. It is not all about teaching High School. Rather, it is all about making sure that we make the most of each day so those last few days as the children are spreading their wings to take flight are not soooo tough. Trust me, they are tough enough when we KNOW that we have enjoyed the journey. So, let’s sit at the feet of my friend Barbara Frank and my son, Matthew Rushton as they inspire us to make the most of these days and as they equip us with wisdom to be sure that we enjoy every moment! You will LOVE this ezine!

Well, ready for the ezine? I am! So…without any further ado, get ready for a fun issue! Just grab a big cup of tea…or hot chocolate…and let’s dig in for a fun mom-time!

Happy homeschooling!
