How Do I Know When I’ve Failed at Homeschooling?
February 17, 2010
Recently, I got the toughest question that I have ever gotten. I have chewed on it since mid-January. Wonder what it is? Here it is:
How do I know when I’ve failed at homeschooling?
Heather
Tough one, huh? I think that this is a great question. Actually, this is a question that makes me want to jump in an airplane and head your way to give you a great big hug! It is the perfect theme for this issue of HSEW.
I love this question because I think that somewhere deep down, we ALL have this one! We will all find ourselves grappling with this one. We all will feel this way from time to time.
I have hit situations that were so tough that I wondered about my own success or failure as a mom. We all want to be a success and somewhere along the line, we will hit a tough time that really makes us look back and wonder if we have done all that we can or if we have been a success or failure. Sweet friend, you are NOT alone!
So, back to your question…
How would you know when you are failure? Read more

Strengthening Our Connection to God By Susanne Scott

Strengthening Our Connection to God
By Susanne Scott
Is your walk with God stumbling? Do you seek Him, spend time alone with Him and yet still feel you are not quite hearing from Him? Your connection might be weak.
Two people joined in marriage before God are part of a triangle that exists between them and God. When the connection between any two of the three sides grows weak and wavery, the whole triangle becomes warped, out of shape. In the busyness of every day life it is so easy to go from being a helpmeet and partner with our spouse to just two adults living together. Yet God intended for so much more. When we go days or even weeks without spending meaningful time with our spouse, we weaken our spiritual connection to God. You may be spending a lot of time with God, praying, fasting, even going away for weekend retreats or conferences to find Him and His will for your life. All those are very good things but if you are in a covenant, spirit-filled relationship with your husband, when he is left out of the process, you will never feel totally confident that you have the heart of God. Ephesians 5:28 says a wife is to respect her husband just as he is to love her as he loves his own body. It also calls us to be in unity with him as a helpmeet. If we are living two separate lives, not working as a team, not respecting and loving one another in all the meanings of those words, our triangle with God is weak and out of shape. Read more
Keep Communication Lines OPEN! By Cindy Rushton
February 3, 2010
When my children became pre-teens, my husband and I were talking about what we needed to do to capture their hearts and KEEP their hearts during the teen and young adult years. We have always wanted to have our children’s hearts softened toward us and close to us. When they open their hearts to us and keep them open, we can minister to their hearts and disciple them up for the glory of God.
As Harold and I were looking at how to capture and KEEP their hearts through the teen and young adult years, Harold said something that forever changed ALL of my relationships–with the children, with my friends, and WITH HIM!
He said that we needed to do what it takes to “KEEP THEM TALKING.”
Think about that.
It is sooo important! It worked! The kids may have disagreed with us from time to time. They may have been confused about why we do what we do. They may have thought we were crazy or OLD from time to time. And, yes, there were many, many times along the way that we did not understand them either. Even since they have been adults, there have been many decisions that they have made that we have not liked. But, through it all, this one thing has worked–keeping them talking! It has kept us close. It has pushed past disagreements. It has kept an atmosphere of mutual respect, honor, and unconditional love. It is soooo important!
And, in nothing could it be MORE important than in our marriages. If we want to build a passionate, forever, happier-and-happier-ever-after marriage, Read more
