Wondering what Mommy Homework is??? Each week you will have an “assignment” here to share in our comments here on this site. You will love this-both sharing AND enjoying answers by others. Some of them, I compile into an ebook (contributors can resell as a product of their own–be sure to submit your email and full name when you register so I can credit you appropriately!).
The result is AWESOME!
We get to know each other…we are encouraged in our journey…and we glean super ideas from other great moms!
Ready for this week’s MH? This is going to be a good one!
One of my friends just shared a new podcast that she has been really enjoying. We decided to pull out our iPhones and share our favorites. HOW FUN! So, I thought that this would be a fun discussion for this week. So, pull out your iPod, IPhone, or iTunes and share your favorite podcasts (you can list them so you don’t share any links that might be private). Tell us what you like about them!
FUN!
I am looking forward to all of these! This will be super! Have fun! DIG IN!
Love ya!
Cindy

Deadline–Friday at midnight CST.
This is the truth: I have some music by Rhonda Gunn (favorites are God is God and Higher Faith), Cindy Morgan (Praise the King) and Susan Ashton. Other than that I just have Cindy Rushton and her friends! Maybe I need to broaden my horizons! I do like to keep things simple though… no Facebook, no Twitter, and I still use a lot of paper! (instead of just computer)
It will be fun looking to see what everyone else is listening to.
blessings,
Beth
Pam Young’s “The Get Out Of Debt Book” -not free, but worth having.
A&P VidCast from Tenn. State University through iTunesU – videos about bones and muscles, very interesting
North Carolina State class HS431 on Permaculture gardening through iTunesU – I haven’t gotten very far in this one, but I hear that it is good once you get past the crunchy granola hippie part at the beginning.
Jack Spirco’s The Survival Podcast – not actually on my iPod because dh and I listen to this one together. He does use some fowl language, but it isn’t enough to outweigh the good information imo.
FlyLady and FlyLady Tools
Jerry Savelle Ministries Audio Podcast
Joyce Meyer TV Podcast
Rosary Cast: The Gospel as a Meditation
The Dave Ramsey Show – I have the free 1 hour version, if you pay you can get 3 hours daily.
The rest of what is on my iPod is Cindy Rushton and friends. This last one makes up a good 75% of what is on my iPod.
Wow, my iPod is chockful. Homeschool Expos & Talk-a-Latte studies are of course staples I frequently listen to. I have so many favorite programs:
Grace to You (John MacArthur)
WATCHTalk with Diana Waring
Building Relationships with Dr. Gary Chapman
Your Marriage Coaches with Dr. Gary & Barb Rosberg
Family Life Today
Focus on the Family
Homemakers by Choice with Donna Otto
Living on the Edge with Chip Ingram
Moody Midday Connection
Precepts for Life with Kay Arthur
Revive Our Hearts with Nancy Leigh DeMoss
Walk in the Word with James MacDonald
I love having lots of choice and iTunes sure gives it to you.
Hi, I’m similar to Beth as I haven’t branched out into Facebook or Twitter etc. I got an MP3 player so that I could listen to the talks from Home education conferences and really enjoy that. At the moment I mainly have Cindy’s marriage programme, Flight Plan, on it and I really enjoy listening to those while I do the ironing or other household tasks in the evening instead of T.V. I also enjoy revisiting the “Seven Habits of a Highly Effective Woman” series by Carolyn Mahaney and some other Christian women. I’m looking forward to getting some other ideas.

I have an iPhone and an iPod nano. Old time Radio Shows, Cindy Rushton stuff (UHSE, UWE, Writers Nook , etc.), Without Walls Central Church sermons (the pastor is an old friend of mine). Tons of music Karen Peck, Carmen, Petra, Aerosmith, and a ton more. Apps of course (no FB app but I am on FB). I have Jenny McCarthy’s books about her autistic son, Quiet Strength by Tony Dungy and Tuesdays with Morey (I have not listened to any of them though. Well, I take that back, I have listened to some of Jenny McCarthy’s first book about her son but the language is rough.) This is just some of what I have on there.
I have our very own Cindy Rushton’s Scheduling Seminar on my MP3 Player. On I Tunes I have Cindy as well (Mom to Mom Radio, UHSE).
Meredith Lorenz
I do have an awful lot of ‘Ultimates’! And I have some Lorrie Flem, and I do love iBloom’s podcast. (Of course, I just love iBloom anyway I can get their stuff!) I have lots of music on there, but I really don’t listen to it very much – either informational/personal growth stuff or silence, for me!
I do keep up with FaceBook there because it’s quick and not worth sitting down at the computer for.
I have a billion translations of the Bible and can search, etc. I also have an audio Bible – might have to search for another one, since I don’t love the guy’s voice – very flat.
Once in a while, I do send messages to people from the iPhone – like Cindy. The first time I sent her a message, I thought she could see who I was… she thought I was a stalker; “Who is this??” was her first response! 🙂
And, of course, I won’t mention any of the kids’ games EXCEPT Toy Story Mania, which my daughter and I played together for FOUR hours last Saturday morning!
I check the weather and sometimes the news.
I just finished Franklin Graham’s autobiography, Rebel With A Cause, on my Kindle app. Easy to finish it since I could snatch a moment here and there.
I also have an app which will calculate for me how much fabric I need for the back or border of a quilt.
Oh, and we look at real estate on the iPhone all the time – it tells me where the nearest houses for sale are and where the open houses are. Sadly, it doesn’t pay for any of them…
Frankly, my iPhone keeps me away from my computer, because surfing on it isn’t so fun that I waste much time there.
I got mine in order to listen to you, Cindy. It has been so helpful and encouraging to me – especially when I first moved and didn’t have friends yet. I’d listen to your sessions and feel that I had some friends and someone that knew exactly what I was going through (especially when my husband was traveling). When I have time, I also visit Sermon Audio and download sermons for me or my husband to listen to. I was just speaking to my husband yesterday that I need to download music and get outside and start walking more as the warmer weather comes here in the South.
Nancy Mosley (fletcher6@dishmail.net)
I don’t have a podcast on my iPod! I have Diana Waring right now actually, along with some scripture songs, geography songs, Andrew Pudewa reading poetry, skip counting, books of the Bible etc! I take the iPod in the truck with us and plug it in using one of those radio adapter things, so it does duty as a homeschooling device :).
My 6 yr. old daughter has The Cat of Bubastes on her iPod from Librivox.org :).
My little MP3 player has various songs on it (Pavaratti and Friends War Child 2, Narnia soundtrack, Michael W Smith Freedom, and a few misc others)..
I am hoping to get either and IPod or similar when I finish our taxes this year as I have several apps I have found that would be fun to have.. Also looking at a new phone (although an IPhone is not in my future a similar system on Verizon would be great to give me access to my homeschooling stuff as well as music and other things..)
I just have a cheap little MP3 player, but always have it full of fun and encouraging stuff to listen to…
Mom to Mom Radio Show (of course!)
Focus on the Family
Family Life Today
Dave Ramsey
Joyce Meyer
Jerry Savelle
Cooking with the Moms
Fit Girl
Um, since I don’t have an iPod I just have everything on the mp3 player of my cell phone. I’m praying for an iTouch. I don’t need the phone, just need the mega storage. lol. The ONLY thing I have on my mp3 is CINDY RUSHTON. I’m not kidding. It doesn’t have enough memory to hold all my songs too (hence my desire for the iTouch) but I’ve been listening to Cindy’s podcasts for some time. I’m loading up iTunes with Twila Paris, Natalie Grant, Phillips Craig & Dean, and several praise & worship CDs so when I do get more memory, I am ready to go!!!
Wow, I didn’t know there was that much good stuff out there. I feel like I’ve been in the Dark Ages. HA
I only have Cindy’s audios. I love listening to them while doing the dishes or other boring chores. 😀 They aren’t so boring anymore and I’m learning lots too.
I never thought about putting audio books on the kids MP3 players, that is a good idea. They have songs on them, but they could be listening to lots of good stories while we drive to and from places. I have tons of audio books on the PC. Librivox is a good one as is Homeschoolradioshows and there are lots of other sites.
I need to go and check out these other great resources. Thanks Ladies.
I have a nano classic we use it for school some, using the dock speakers. I’d love to get the girls an ipod touch or even just a nano to do more school via ipods.
I have Joyce Meyer- both radio and TV
Faith Comes By Hearing daily Proverbs and Psalms
Cindy Rushton homeschooling Expos
New Testament- which we listen to first thing for school
Grammar Girl podcast
Lots and Lots of LibriVox audio’s
Classical music- Back and Mozart which we listen to during school, get those brains cells firing.
I’m thinking about see how long it would take to make flash cards to use on it in the “photo” section.
Some Old Time Radio detective shows. It is really funny to hear “Floyd the Barber” from Mayberry as the voice/character of a murderer.
Oh and I do have some music. LOL
~Marni
Hm well I don’t have one. Everyone else in my house has MP3 and IPods. I don’t have time for anything like that.
Our 13 year old uses hers for Schooling, we access the Free Library and use the classics. She also uses the Free Calculator, Dictionary, and Searches the web for resources. She also uses it for music.
My husband and son also have items like this. IPod for my son age 24 and MP3 for DH. They listen to music. However I don’t have one, don’t use one and I don’t want one. They have asked if I wanted one, but I always turn it down.
Not certain Why anyone would want stuff attached to their head. Doesn’t make sense to me.
Sorry guys I am not in the loop and not certain I want to be.
Lisa
I have a blog that is less than a year old but I don’t Facebook or Twitter etc. My blog is a Christian homemaking blog and it has been a fun project for me. I like participating in Meme’s because it is like little motivating projects that I can do and then link up to share with others. My family has enjoyed the benefits of them too like Menu Plan Monday has helped to motivate me to plan a menu for the week and I have even set up a Cooking/ Menu Plan Notebook. My family has fun on Wednesday when I set the table up real nice for dinner and I make special desserts and then share it on the Tablescape Thursday Meme.
I have Windows Media Player on my computer but I don’t have an iPod/iPhone/iTunes/ MP3 player. I like to listen to podcasts while I am on the computer or sometimes I listen to them while working in the kitchen. They are like taking little mini classes and they inspire me as a homemaker. I got hooked on Blog Talk Radio when you started your podcasts over there and they are free to listen to and download.

I’m one with an MP3 so no videos but I’ve got
UHSE and a few choice shows by Cindy ( will remain to listen to over and over),
a random book from the library currently “Your Childs Strengths-Discover Them, Develope Them, Use Them,”
Mission on Lent from Audio Sancto & “On Backbiting” parts 1 and 2… really good stuff if you have issuse with gossip in your life even if you’re not Catholic also from Audio Sancto but from 2007
The Rosary Cast,
music (Foggy Church, John Angotti, Nick Alexander, Popple)
and the Latina Christian lessons I need to listen to over and over and over to learn 🙂
I just purchased a 2G MP3 player which doesn’t have a lot of space for all of my mp3’s (I can’t get an IPhone so an IPod is on my wishlist) and what I put on my MP3 player depends on the season of my life.
* All of Cindy’s podcasts (UHSE, Talk-A-Latte, etc.)
* Student of the Word Seminar
* Jerry Sevelle’s Podcasts
* Joyce Meyer
* Praise & Worship Music
* Audio Books (depends on what we are studying)
* Audios on “How to Learn German” (my daughter is interested in learning German; something she’s developed an interest in)
I’m sure there’s more, but again, it depends on the season of my life and where the Lord is taking me.
God bless!

We all have ipod nanos that we use daily. I have TONS of Cindy’s audios, plus some Lori Flem, and a few other homeschool talks I have picked up here and there. We all listen to literature and music from the library, audible.com, and librivox. My 18yo son loves to look up his favorite authors on librivox and find every work they have done by that author. My 15yo son learns more from audios than he can ever read, so I really keep him in great literature on his ipod. I try to get at least one audio a week from his history reading list as well, so he can get more books in that way. My 12yo daughter loves all the girlish literature, such as Anne of Green Gables and Little Women. She told me the other day that she thinks she is allot like Jo (from Little Women). lol I almost forgot……I have a little Il Divo on my ipod as well right now. I don’t understand all the words as they sing in several languages, but it is so beautiful!
Literally, all I have on my mp3 player is Cindy Rushton and John Macarthur, and I have too many of those on there to list! LOL I do have a phonics song on there for my son, and periodically, I put an eduactional audio on there such as one from homeschool radio show!.
I do not have any music on there. Just audios that I can listen to in my spare time to help me grow as a christian, wife, mother, and friend.
I do not have an IPOD but an MP3 player and the Cd’s I listen to are Ultimate Homeschool Expo 2008/9. I also have saved the Seminars from the Urban Homemaker when she had them before her husband died. I also subscribe weekly to the Homeschool Radio Shows program where we get a free MP3 recording or e-book per day. These are put on CD and then played back to my children using some speakers in my MP3 player. They are learning during lunches listening to History stories, or seminars, or even Adventures in Odyssey sometimes.

Wow! Talking about IPod’s I’m listening to music now. My IPod seems to change constantly on some things. 🙂 I keep differently things for different moods and depending on how much I can concentrate at the time. I have all sorts of music from Cowboy (clean) music – love the Roy Roger and Dale Evans music and have gotten to know their family since they moved to Branson and love Roy Jr’s and Dustins, the Sons of the Pioneers, Southern Gospel Music, Hymns, and yes even the old love song type of music and patriotic music.
For programs I have Mommy Club, Flight Plan and other of Cindy’s and her friends. I love listening to Dr. Dobson’s programs, HomeschoolRadioShows.com, old time radio shows, audio books are great too. For Christmas this year we helped my mother put together an audio book that she read that was written by her aunt years ago. Janet Oke, Little House on the Prairie, Little Women series…etc. I also enjoy drama stories.
Yes, I love my IPod!! When I get frustrated with my kids and need a Mommy time out, it is so nice to be able to put headphones on and work and I can still keep an eye on them but don’t have to get upset at whatever is going on.
Reading some of the above list…I will be adding to mine soon.
Orilla
LOTS of christian music, and country. Aaron Shust, Casting Crowns, Michael W. Smith, Natalie Grant, Carrie Underwood, Acapella, Alison Krauss, The Beatles, Daughtry, Dixie Chicks, Lace, Faith Hill, Jars of Clay….
I love to listen to my music when I’ on the elliptical…and lately have used it in our SUV because our cd player/radio is out. LOVE my ipod…
Wendy Woerner
Well, actually, we share a couple of mp3 players around here! I keep wondering why I don’t have my Cindy stuff, myNancy Rolinger stuff, and some from My Audio School on one so I can listen to them while I clean my desk or stock my workboxes…guess I need to get my techie son to work for me…and/or maybe get my own someday! 🙂
Monique
Hey Lisa;
I thought like you til I realized I could get speakers for it for less than $10, and I could use it on the speakers in my van…but I wouldn’t have to look for cd’s ! That is, of course, if I actually had one of my own instead of 2 floating around for the thwelve of us..that’s not terribly accurate, the older children who want one did get one …
Monique
I have tons of music on my mp3 player. But I actually listen to the podcasts more than the music.
I enjoy listening to the Daily Audio Bible (which let me listen to the whole Bible in a year), and my kids enjoy listening to the Daily Audio Bible Kids podcast (which features a brother and sister with their dad reading the New Testament in a year). I listen to mine at bedtime, and we all listen to the kids podcast during lunch.
I’ve also got Mom to Mom radio show and other Rushton audios on there.
I can really only keep up with 2 or 3 podcasts at a time, so that’s about it.
Jenn Pearson
My daughter’s:
Lots of StoryNory audios
The Kingdom series audio books (Kingdom’s Dawn right now)
Your Story Hour
Music by Go Fish
Mine:
February Mom Club audios
Kay Arthur Precepts for Life
Beth Moore’s wisdom series
Crazy Love and Forgotten God by Francis Chan
Parts of the Message Bible (got it cheap at a Christian Audio sale, so keep an eye out!)
How to Pray by R. A. Torrey
Karen Jensen The Power in Your Words podcast
Music by: Kari Jobe (whole album), Serene & Pearl, Shannon Hawkyard, Casting Crowns, Darius Rucker (It Won’t Be Like This For Long, Alright), Nathan Clark George, Brandon Heath, Willie Nelson
And as soon as I free up some space there’s an audio fro the Say What You Mean Convention on nurturing daughters that I want to load and re-listen to.
Oh my goodness…. my iPod is FULL 🙂
Musically speaking, I’m currently listening to listening to
Hillsong & Hillsong United (esp “Desert Song” though we sing several Hillsong songs in our family worship time)
Casting Crowns newest album, Until the Whole World Hears
Third Day’s Revelation
Needtobreathe (*loving* “Lay ‘Em Down”)
John Waller (“I love to say Your Name; like I city on hill I will put them on display”)
and I just downloaded some TobyMac because my kids and I just love.us.some.Diverse.City. 🙂
By far our favorite artist to listen to over and over is Ayiesha Woods. What a BEAUTIFUL voice she has; not to mention, her song “Happy” is incredibly FUN and oh so strong — “No, I cannot count the ways You have made my life so blessed, all I know is that You came and made beauty of my mess.”
In the line of podcasts, I love Chuck Swindoll’s “Insight for Living” and the ministry’s “Paws & Tales” for kids (similar radio theater style to Adventures in Odyssey, but designed more for younger children – late preschool through elementary). And *of course* the Mom to Mom Radio Show! (those are my treats when I get to drive somewhere alone or the angels fall asleep in the back!)
I’ve also started listening to apologist Ravi Zacharias. WOW… he is phenomenally gifted at unpacking the Word of God and totally dismantling polytheism, atheism, humanism – you name it. He’s also a powerful author, *highly* recommend him.
A few years ago, I got Steve Saint’s book, End of the Spear, on my ipod as an audiobook. I can’t tell you how much I’ve enjoyed/grappled with/prayed over/thought about the journey on which God led his family; not just his martyred father, but his wife and children as well. Truly, God shows His love to a thousand generations of those who love Him.
Sooooo….. that’s what’s spinning on my ipod right now. But I’m excited to check out some of the suggestions here! I’d never heard of iBloom, but what I read on iTunes looks interesting! And the idea of having R.A. Torrey at the touch of a button…. oooooohhhh my! OH! And My Audio School? Just checked out the site – and might have heard angels as I read…. just sayin’.
So thanks, everyone for the great ideas! And thank YOU, Cindy, for such a great topic!
