Eat that Frog…
Ok! I know, I know. That sounds disgusting doesn’t it? I am not talking about reptiles there. I am talking about an idea I found years ago that helps SO much with productivity.
I woke up today to a very, very gloomy day. It is stormy outside. If I could do what I “FELT” like doing, I would be snuggled up with my puppies in my comfy bed! ha! Of course, the first thing I thought was, “Cindy, eat that frog.”
Many of you know I found a book by that title years ago. I really do not remember anything from the book. The title alone has stuck with me through days like today when everything in me would like to stay in bed, goof off, dawdle, or just take a mommy day.
Eat that frog!
Think about it.
No one wants to eat the frog. I think it would be the last bowl on the big table. I have ate many things in my life, but never FROGS! 🙂
Oh! I have A LOT of frogs on Monday Morning. All of those chores that pile up over the weekend, when I am sticking to priorities like romance and family fun. All of those business details that await me bright and early on Monday Morning. Oh, and we all feel the pain of going back to work when we would love one more day added to our weekend.
But…think of how nice it feels when you have eaten the biggest, yuckiest frog. There is an exhilaration when you get it all down. Done! Finished! It is no longer on your plate.
One other thing… once you eat the biggest, yuckiest frog, it sure makes the other little ones go down a bit easier, huh?
So, what would our day…our week…our month…our life look like if we would just eat the frogs. Get them down. Get them done. No longer have to dread them.
Today, as I looked at my big looming list of things to do. I admit that I felt overwhelmed, reluctant, and very resistant. Now, just hours later, I have ate one big, UGLY frog and two rather squirmy frogs. I feel like a million dollars now! Actually…the only thing on my plate now is my CHEESECAKE that I can down with my LATTE! hehe!
So, beloved, today go ahead…eat that frog!
Until I heard you say it some time ago, I had never heard that phrase, but I really do like it! It fits exactly how I dread doing those big looming tasks and how much better I feel once they are done….and they aren’t nearly as bad as I imagine them to be.
Blessings,
Carie Shinn
I had an “eat the frog” day yesterday. It started out that I had to get the house back in order after a fun but busy weekend. As I was straightening up my mind was filled with tons of other things I needed to do too. So I got out a piece of card stock and a Sharpie pen (my weapon of choice) and started to make my list as I straightened. Instead of getting side tracked, I just wrote down all I thought of to be done later. Fast forward several hours and I got everything done on my list except one thing! That one thing is a multi-day project, so I feel pretty great! That’s the way I eat the frog…with a list!
That is such a ingenious tagline! And cheeky too, sometimes my “eat my frog” plates pile up so high, I end up throwing my “frogs” away, but to no avail cos they just keep on hopping back. Oh well, but hope your “frog-eating” chore expedition goes well, I’m going back to my “eat the frog” Day.
