The Ultimate Gift
Anne of Green Gables

Those movies are wholesome and everyone can watch them together!
Miss Amanda
Oh I love a good movie! We have a hard time agreeing on something sometimes because of the genders and ages of our family. We have a 15 year old girl, 6 year old boy and another 3 year old boy. BUT, these are movies that we have been able to enjoy together. Not all “Christian” based but some of the Christian movies can be a little deep for my young ones so here is what I chose.
1. Facing the Giants -Excellent
2. Sound of Music – Love this movie
3. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang – okay this one is an oldie but a goodie
4. Fly Wheel- Very good.
5. The Parent Trap (The original one not the new one)- Classic
6. The Apple Dumpling Gang – Funny with Don Knotts
7. Charlie Brown Christmas- I mean come on when Linus quotes Luke, it has to bring tears to your eyes lol.
8. It’s a wonderful life- Again, a classic
9. The Love Comes Softly Series – I think there are 5 movies now. All very good.
10. Disney’s Cars – We all love that movie.
Well there you have it. I hope they didn’t all have to be Christian oriented. We don’t watch anything our kids can’t watch for the most part. For example we probably wouldn’t let our 2 youngest watch Fireproof just because it deals with sensitive issues, though we LOVED the movie. You know that kind of thing. I can’t wait to see what every one else came up with . I would love to get my hands on some new movies. Oh and does everyone know that at most libraries you can check movies out for free. We do that a lot to see if we want to buy it. Just thought I would mention that!
Blessings everyone.
Kim Wilson
Our family doesn’t have any type of cable or satellite, so any movies we watch are usually on DVD or VHS. Over the years, we’ve tried to collect family friendly titles, and many of the ones we watch over and over again are from my husband’s and my childhood…so that can be sort of sentimental. We also have Friday Fun Night each week and all the children camp out in the living room and we watch a movie. I don’t claim these are the most intellectual (LOL), but they ARE the ones our family have watched most often over the years! Also, some are sets or series, so I’m grouping those as one:
~Anne of Green Gables/Anne of Avonlea
~Mountain Family Robinson trilogy
~The Sound of Music
~Love Comes Softly series
~The Three Stooges Meet Hercules (don’t ask)
~The Apple Dumpling Gang/The Apple Dumpling Gang Rides Again (and anything else with Don Knotts)
~Swiss Family Robinson (Disney)
~The Parent Trap (And anything else with Hayley Mills)
~The Absent Minded Professor ( all Fred McMurray movies too)
~Song of the South
And one more for good measure:
~Seven Brides for Seven Brothers
Although I only listed the ones above, we also enjoy anything featuring Andy Griffith, Roy Rogers, Gene Autry, Dean Jones, and Shirley Temple. Plus they also enjoyed Facing the Giants a lot, but we’ve only seen that once.
I know family and friends think we’re old fashioned and behind the times, but we have fun and enjoy our movies…and just spending time together making memories…and eating popcorn! LOL
Blessings,
Amy O.
Ok, here are some of our favorites…
The Nativity Story
Chronicles of Narnia: Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe
Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian
National Treasure
Invincible
Miracle
Facing the Giants
Hoosiers
Radio
Love Comes Softly Series
As you can see, we like sports movies!
Natalie Munroe
We have a wide range of movies we love…some are more for adults not children, so I won’t list those…but these ones are enjoyable
1. What About Bob? (our life has had way too many people who just never leave-hence the love of the movie)
2. It is a Wonderful Life (all time fav for us all)
3. A Walk to Remember
4. Back to the Future (this is my son’s fav-we have seen it so much we can say most of the lines from memory)
5. Chronicles of Narnia (L, W and W is our fav of the 2 so far, but PC is good too)
6. Madagascar (looking forward to the new one)
7. Toy Story (just something about it that is so cute)
8. Facing the Giants ( I went thru 1/2 a box of tissues with this one, have yet to see Fireproof and Flywheel)
9. A Miracle on 34th Street (every year we look forward to catching it at least 2x on TV)
10. I Love Lucy Reruns (now this is not a movie per say, but we spend a lot of time on Sat. watching the Lucy marathon and just laughing and giggling as a family-even my college students love em)
(For the adults/older teens: Signs. The alien thing doesn’t bother me b/cuz we know they do not exist but the message of the movie is sooooo goood….are you one to see coincidence and have nothing to believe in or do you find there is a higher power and know it will work out? (paraphrase there) Can be a bit frightful cuz they use suspense more than actual sight to cause scares….so use your judgement on this one)

Our family also enjoys spending time curled up on the sofa with blankets and a good movie. I also have made “corn bags’ for each family that I stick in the microwave for a couple of minutes. These bags keep us toasty on those cooler fall evenings. And sometimes we even pop up some popcorn.
Speaking of memories, one year we were watching “Dumbo” and I decided to make some sweet popcorn. We moved after this and when we unpacked our tapes at our new house and our daughter saw this movie again she said, “Oh remember mom when we watched “Dumbo” back at our home in Missouri that you made sweet popcorn? That was so much fun.” Sweet memories.
We have a range of ages too but here are some of our favorite movies to watch together:
Narnia – The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe
Sound of Music
Facing the Giants
The Disney Classics – Winnie-the-Pooh, Dumbo, Peter Pan, etc. and newer ones such as Cars and Toy Story I and II
Wallace and Gromit – claymation short films
Tasha Tudor’s – Take Peace or Take Joy (these are the films about her life at her home in Vermont – we especially enjoyed the Christmas one)
Milo and Otis
The Wilderness Family
Love Comes Softly Series
Swiss Family Robinson
Our children all love animals and so anytime that nature films or animal films are on, they just enjoy them so much.
Nancy Mosley
Oh, Cindy, this is hard because our family has a big collection depending on the season. And if you are like ours, we do more watching during the Christmas season and winter time. We have small children so we try to make it where we can all enjoy them. Here they are:

2. A Perfect Stranger and Another Perfect Stranger
3. Anne of Green Gables/Anne of Avonlea
4. Christy Series
5. The Note
6. Grandpa for Christmas
7. Good Sports Gang Series
8. Ernest Goes to Camp and Ernest Saves Christmas
9. A Mothers Gift
10. Single Santa Seeks Mrs. Claus and Meet the Santas
We buy a most of our DVD’s from Feature Films for Families at http://www.familytv.com. They are clean and are fun with usually a Christian meaning and lesson.
Cindy it was so hard to keep this to just 10! 🙂
Orilla Crider
We haven’t had cable, satiellte or atennae at our house since our children were born, so we depend on good, sound, clean DVD’s for entertainment.

Thanks,
Shannon Depew
Ok, let’s see… i’m trying to be very careful because i think we are kind of liberal when it comes to movies, compared to a lot of other conservative Christian families but to my knowledge these don’t have anything terribly inappropriate in them…
1. Facing the giants- hands down, number 1!
2. the old version of “the time machine”
3. Cheaper by the dozen 1 (not so much 2. This is the modern version with Steve Martin, i’ve not seen the older one but i’ve heard its good)
4. Yours, mine, and ours. Both versions though i like the earlier one better.
5. Disney’s the kid
6. Parent trap with Hayley mills
7. Chronicals of narnia
8. Charlie Brown Christmas
9. Its a wonderful life
10. Wal-E
This is great! My first time doing this 🙂
Our favorite family movies are:

5) Fireproof
6) Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe
7) The Christmas Shoes
8) Passion of the Christ

10) Charlotte’s Web
Lynn Pitts
Unfortunately most of the movies I like to watch with our children, my DH doesn’t like to watch. We occassionally watch some of the Pixar movies, StarWars (classic trilogy), young Indiana Jones chronicles(we only have one of these on VHS but I’d like to have them all on DVD), Chronicles of Narnia. The things DH likes to watch aren’t always appropriate for children–usually due to the language. If it is something he really wants to watch with them (an action movie based on something historical usually-Band of Brothers) we change the language to spanish, french, whatever is available then read subtitles in English. I am ever the multi-tasker and usually doing other things while watching, so this is so irritating needing to read the screen the entire time to follow. 🙂
I am hoping to compile a list from other’s answers to bring more family friendly movies into our home! Thanks for sharing!
Hillary in Indiana
Our girls love to watch movies. We always try and watch the Christmas Classics when they come on. The ABC Family channel is good about running them all during the month of December. You can go to their web site and print out the schedule so you don’t miss them. These are just a few of our favorites:
1. White Christmas – For those who love musicals and tap dancing
2. Sound of Music
3. Charlotte’s Web
4. Homeward Bound
5. The 12 Dogs of Christmas
6. Cheaper by the Dozen
7. Happy Feet
8. Air Buddies
9. Snow Buddies
10. Firehouse Dog
Sincerely,
Katrina Boatwright
Ahhh, there are so many “classics” we love, but after a survey of my munchkins, we decided to stick with “newer” titles:
10 – Eragon – Such a great fantasy – and both my boys and girls love it!
9 – Waterhorse – Another fantasy
8 – Dreamer – Such a great “horse” movie about believing in the impossible
7 – Because of Winn Dixie – such a great perspective on a child developing friendships with all ages of people
6 – Bridge to Terabithia – What a tear jerker!
5 – Narnia – Loved Lion, Witch and Wardrobe, and can’t wait to see Caspian when it comes out on DVD since we always have babies and can never seem to make it to the theatre
4 – Akeelah and the Bee – Way to make spelling compelling!
3 – Man from Snowy River – Ahhhh! The scenery and the music just relaxes me! Not a new title – but Mom’s fave!
2 –Liberty’s Kids – I know it’s not technically a movie, but this PBS series just captivates my kiddos and really teaches them history at the same time
1 – Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium – We have yet to find a Walden Media film we haven’t enjoyed. (Also the new Charlotte’s Web by them is FANTASTIC!)
We love to snuggle on the couch, eat some popcorn, and for a real treat is has to be with real coca cola 😀 Here are some of our favorites (probably a little more liberal than most from what I see, but we see and teach life lessons in all)
Veggie Tales — my 19 & 16 yo’s LOVE these! So do I ;-D
Enchanted
Superman — with Christopher Reeve
Lord of the Rings trilogy
Star Wars
National Treasure 1 & 2
Chronicles of Narnia movies
Madagascar (also looking forward to #2
Alvin & the Chipmunks
Spiderwick Chronicles
A Christmas Story (absolutely hilarious!)
Charlie Brown (anything)
Horton Hears a Who
and of course Sound of Music is one of my all time favorites!
I know I’ve already gone over my limit but there are so many!! And for anyone who might be interested in expanding on those “teachable moments” with your family and/or friends there is a website where you can get film talk cards for $4.95 each, includes discussion questions and scripture verses applicable to some main points or themes in the movie, they also have free samples at http://www.movieministry.com (right now the film card for Fireproof is free, and also Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed)
Blessings to all,
Lisa Sims

Priscilla Strader
Thanks!!
Our family likes a variety of movies. My husband and 2 oldest kids like scarey and action movies, I like comedies and chick flicks and the youngest 2 like Disney shows and other ones geared for their ages (10 and 12). I’m not sure if I have any original movies from looking at everyone else’s, but here’s my 10.
A Little Princess
The Secret Garden
No Reservations
American Girl movies – Samantha, Felicity, Molly and Kit
Ratatouille
Pirates of the Caribbean
I Robot
The Day after Tomorrow
Jumanji
Aladdin
We’ll definitely be buying Fireproof when it comes out too. Don said to mention all the Christmas classics we’ll start watching soon. He loves Frosty and Rudolph as much as the kids. 🙂
Katie Anderson
Let me see if I can come up with 10.
Facing the Giants
Christy series
Little house on the prairie series
Rigelletto (Sp?) -Featured family film
Seasons of the heart – Featured family film
Love comes softly series
High School Musical – Don’t laugh it does have a really good message
Anne of Green Gables
Raising Sarah Cain
The Christmas Shoes
Jenni Schafran
I have a hard time with this one as we watch a lot of movies, but there a lot that are requested over and over that my husband can’t stand to watch more than once a month or two, so we have “kid” movies, “family” movies and “mommy” movies (those ones are usually the boring classics the kids don’t want to watch.
I can give categories better than specific movies because we have such an extensive collection.
I also have special memories of growing up and the only movies we were allowed to watch on Sundays were musicals as a family. We would take turns each week getting to pick the movie we would watch and we would get to share Daddy’s special popcorn and pick what topping went on that popcorn. My favorite is still chili powder and parmesan cheese.
1. Classic Disney Cartoons or almost any current Disney (Wall-E and Tinkerbell are current favorites)
2. Thomas and Friends-for my boys and my girl
3. Musicals, like Sound of Music or Oklahoma or the King and I or My Fair Lady, Easter Parade, Meet Me in St. Louis
4. The Liken It Series, Gold or Bible Series
5. Any Veggie Tales, we get a kick out of the new ones
6. Classic old movies, we’re going through Abbott and Costello right now, Arsenic and Old Lace, Canterville Ghost, Candleshoe, Harvey
7. Any Jim Henson Stuff-Muppets movies, Fraggle Rock series, the old Jim Henson hour fairy tales
8. Old Rankin and Bass cartoons-Jack Frost, Rudolph
9. Mommy Movies-Anne of Green Gables, Christy, Jane Austen’s stuff, Jane Eyre, Audrey Hepburn’s movies-Funny Face, Roman Holiday, or Julia Andrews’ Cinderella (her first tv movie, the original old Rodgers and Hammerstein)
10. Mythbusters/How it’s Made/Time Warp
I hope this helps some people, we tend to have eclectic tastes, we like introducing the kids to our favorites from when we were little and finding new ones to share with them now. I also personally love the old Christmas movies: Holiday Inn, White Christmas, Miracle on 34th Street (both old and new), It’s a wonderful life, Charlie Brown’s stuff, all those older ones, but my husband can’t stay in the room to watch them. He says his mom would go way too overboard with them when he was growing up and he can only watch a little bit before they get boring.
Holly Tolman
So fun to see everyone’s favorites!! Our family is all over the board with movies….so here is ours…in no particular order, mind you!!
Home Alone
Sweet Home Alabama
Under the Tuscan sun
Transformers
Fantastic 4
National Treasure
Charlie Brown/ Thanksgiving & Christmas
Freedom Writers (intense, but 14 dd has seen this many times!!)
The Incredibles (husband’s favorite!!)
Anne of Green Gables
Ahhh……..it is the time for bundling up with mugs of soup in front of the tele! Very good topic Cindy!!
Blessings!
Kelly Martin
Oh this is a toughie for me!!! And my list got absolutely huge wwhen I asked the kids what the fave movie of all time was – they couldn;t just give me one!!!! We watch a lot of movies! In fact that is what we do most of the time when the telly is switched on! As I find it more nicer to sit down and watch a movie instead of flicking through all those channels with not much on! And if we do flick we always end up on the movie ones looking for something to watch even if we only seen it last week!!! Tonight we watched Wall.e!
So a list of ten is so hard! But here goes in no particular order!!!!
Disney/pixar movies – generally all of them!!!! From Winnie the pooh, to Cars, to Dumbo, 101 Dlamations, them all! Too many to list! And sadly my shelves bear the weight of them all in video format!!!

We voted and got random results; the littles kept picking TV shows (Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy) and 30-minutes videos, but here’s what we finally figured out:
Facing the Giants
Swiss Family Robinson
Winnie-the-Pooh (the original cartoon)
Apple Dumpling Gang (and Rides Again)
Hot Lead and Cold Feet
The Sound of Music
Homeward Bound
Mary Cassatt (Devine Entertainment)
Marie Curie (Devine Entertainment)
various Abbott and Costello (and Marx Brothers)
I have to admit we have our DVD stash of the oldies: I Love Lucy, The Andy Griffith Show, and Green Acres.
In case you want to know the videos the littles like: Nest Animation (esp. The Good Samaritan), Moody Science, Mary Rice Hopkins, and Cedarmont Kids
Be blessed,
Danielle
My kids are in the teen and tween stages. This list is in no particular order and is a mix movies, TV series, and a few other videos our family did or still does enjoy. I couldn’t narrow it down to ten so listed them all. I hope that is o.k.

1) Ruby Bridges
(I JUST LOVE THIS MOVIE! What a spiritual inspiration Ruby was! She demonstrated such amazing faith, trust, forgiveness, and spiritual intimacy with the Lord for one so young – an example to all. When afraid or struggling, rather than coddle her or dwell on how tough things were, her mother told her to go to God, pour her heart out to Him, and ask Him what to do. I was thrilled such scenes hadn’t been cut from the movie. A must-see movie!!!!!)
2) Little House on the Prarie movies and TV series
3) Love Comes Softly series
4) Daniel Boone TV series
5) Most Abbott and Costello movies
6) Just about anything with Lucille Ball
7) Princess Bride
8) Lord of the Rings movies

We have an eclectic taste in movies. My husband, like most men, likes anything with action in it. The boys still like kids movies, and I like romantic movies (go figure). Unfortunately, with all this testosterone in the house, I rarely get to watch what I want. lol
By the way, just so you know, I don’t agree with all of the movies that my husband watches or allows my boys to watch. Since he’s the head of the household, he generally has the final say, whether I approve or not.
Alvin and the Chipmunks
Ratatouille
Nim’s Island
Firehouse Dog
The Pacifier (something for everyone, funny movie)
The Neverending Story
The Lord of the Rings trilogy (My hubby’s favorites)
Air Buddies
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe
Cinderella (original Disney)
Some of our favorites, not in any order…
1. Facing the Giants
2. Sugar Creek Gang Series (5 of them)
3. Swiss Family Robinson (original and TV series)
4. Love Comes Softly Series
5. National Treasure
6. Beverly Hilbillies
7. I Love Lucy (the cheese/baby show is my favorite!)
8. Miss Patty Cake (2 and 4 year old love this one!)
9. Veggie Tales (will always be good!)
10. Moms all time favorite is Pride and Prejudice (the 5 hour long one by the BBC – which I never have timne to watch!)
Lori Duncan
No particular order, just some favorites that come to mind.
Fiddler On The Roof
Facing The Giants
The Ultimate Gift
Spirit
Dreamer
Little House on the Prairie
Answers in Genesis movies
Sound of Music
Janette Oake (based on the books) movies
Sweet Home Alabama
Fun question for this week! Julie Bertsch
Very good topic for cool fall evenings. here are some of our favorites. They are not “Christian” movies but we look for a good family oriented message without the negatives of smart alecky kids you see so often in movies now.
Finding Nemo
Cars
The Chronicles of Narnia- We’ve only seen the first one
Old Yeller
Sound of Music
Spy Kids
The Shaggy Dog
Anything Veggie Tales
Mr Magoriums Wonder Emporium
The Incredibles
We have young kids, so I didn’t include some of the “older” movies I like. But all these are family friendly.

It’s hard to narrow down to only 10 movies . . . one of our favorite things to do is to have a family movie night (complete with popcorn)!
Here are some of the ones we love . . . my kiddos are 7 and 4:
ANIMATED:
Lady and the Tramp
Cars
Toy Story 2
Ratatouille
OLD DISNEY MOVIES:
The Computer that Wore Tennis Shoes
Now You See Him, Now You Don’t
The Love Bug (old version)
Swiss Family Robinson
Snowball Express
Any VeggieTales movie — I think we’ll have to get “The Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything for Christmas” 😉
We have far more than 10 favorities in this house. But, I’ll share some that the boys and I enjoy.
Star Wars (the original trilogy primarily as the newer ones are a bit more violent)
Jonah, A Veggietales Movie (or really any Veggie Tales show)
Cheaper by the Dozen (they really loved watching the original one as well as the remakes)
National Treasure
Lord of the Rings Trilogy (we made them wait a while to watch this because of the violence)
Feature Films for Families movies (I don’t think we’ve met one they haven’t liked and there are no issues with language, etc.)
Sarah, Plain and Tall (plus sequels) is one of my favorities, but the boys haven’t watched with me yet.
The Princess Bride (which they just asked me to find since it’s still boxed up from our move)
there are several by Disney that they like, mostly ones like Toy Story
the younger boys also love to watch Hermie shows
Laura O’Neill
Boy Cindy, this is a hard one for me b/c we are pretty strict on our movie viewing and my oldest is only 11.
We do really like
(1)Charlottes Web a lot.
(2)Bambi
(3)Oh we do really like Nemo!
(4) fox and the hound 1 and 2
(5)Winnie the Pooh movies
(6) We do like the veggie tales movies
(7) Arctic tale
(8) Franklin movies
(9) the Litle Bear movie
(10) The Dora or Diego movies
We really do not watch very many popular movies that others may watch. My kids are often not allowed to watch things with their friends but I try to have them feel good about not watching these things instead of feeling left out or made fun of. It is always better to just take a stand and do what you feel is right. You will never have to feel bad for doing the right thing!

My husband is a MOVIE LOVER. So much so that we all dresses as Star Wars characters to go to a church outreach tonight.
I guess Star Wars is one of our favorites (the original trilogy – although we do own all of them)
I love The Sound of Music, Anne of Green Gables, and the Love Comes Softly Series.
My 6 year old has gotten hooked on Dog movies and so lately we have had the pleasure of watching Bengi, Air Bud and sequels, and Miracle Dog.
We also really enjoy Princess Diaries and Princess Diaries 2.
We own almost all of the Veggie Tales and they are my favorite – the girls just are not into them right now. My toddler loves them though.
My Fair Lady is a classic the girls and I love but my husband could do without.
Oops! Was I supposed to limit it to 10? Sorry. We like movies and as TV gets more dangerous for our viewing, we watch a few more movies.
Ladies, I can’t wait to read all the posts. Thanks for sharing.
In His Abounding Grace,
Jeniver Boyer

I on the other hand don’t really care to watch that.
My girls have a different set of favorties too!
