Hi Cindy! I’ve been very encouraged through your web site. I’ve been reading up a little on Time-lines. Question: Do you think it would be too confusing if I did a time line with all of the things I want on it? American History, Artist, musicians, family, Presidents, etc. I’m having a hard time picking and choosing. Anything my 4 kiddo’s find out about I want to put on a time line. Please Help. Grace & Peace Thank you! Dee

Hi Dee!
I LOVE your children’s enthusiasm! How priceless!
Confusing? Absolutely not! 🙂 If anything, timelines really pull it all together and shows a flow of history in order. It is a super way for you to pull all of those studies together and show how they all relate.
We have always kept a huge TIMELINE NOTEBOOK that included everything in it from all of our studies. I loved how we could fit in a person, event, or even a book published into the chain of world events. Using a timeline really helped me to be free to dig deep into various topics without being afraid that our children would not understand that the Civil War did not happen right after Adam and Eve fell from grace. 🙂 I loved using a NOTEBOOK because it was set up like a book–from beginning to end. That is also a great way for our children to get a feel for history and how it flowed from beginning to today. Can you tell that I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE making Timeline Notebooks?
When the kids hit a study that ended up being a huge study–like Civil War, Lewis and Clark, and Titanic (Elisabeth’s favorite study right now), they did set up a timeline specifically for those studies. Those are neat too. But, we really liked the overall notebook that could be used for misc. studies along the way. It is nice for pulling together all of the studies through the year, seeing who lived at the same time, and watching the chain of events.
If you need more help with making timeline notebooks or just timeline sections for a larger study, we have lots of great resources that are perfect for you. Here are my picks:
