Cindy,
Thank you for holding the lapbooking class. I missed the first 30 min. because we were milking our cows, but so enjoyed the rest of it. We have been participating in the Creation Astronomy classes with Felice and the children got so much from that. I have tried a couple of times to lapbook but have got bogged down in my own perfectionism, that needless to say it hasn’t proved to be that enjoyable or retainable….memorable, probably not the kind I would hope for:) Anyway, I have 4 children, dd 11, dd 8, ds 6, ds 4, and I;m sure they would all enjoy the hands on learning…..I guess the thing I learned last night was to put all the different pieces into a ziplock bag till we are done and then put the lapbook together…I don’t know why I hadn’t heard that before!!:) I am excited…I think for my boys we are going to do a monster truck lapbook/notebook; not sure for my girls yet. My 8 year old wants to read the Little House on the Prairie series herself and I have primer that goes with that so I thought I could incorporate lapbook/notebooking into that and maybe my 11 yr old would od that also, eventhough she’s already read them. She’s reading the Elsie Dinsmore series, so maybe there’s something out there along that line? 🙂
I’m sorry to think outloud on this email. 🙂
I’m not real computer savvy and to be honest I can’t find the time to get into face book and blogging yet, I barely can get through my email.
I wanted to know if you or anyone you know, knows where the best place is to get the most inexpensive folders and paper is. In store or online…any ideas??
Thank you
Karen Hay in KS

Hey!
Oh! What a wonderful question!
You are going to have a blast! Your boys are going to love making their lapbooks/notebooks on monster trucks! How fun! I LOVE Little House. What a BIG TOPIC! You can teach soooo much bouncing off of those books. Your boys will love those too. I was surprised how much Matthew loved that series. There is so much that you can study “hands-on” as you read through the books. Talk about a fun study! And, I SO loved the Elsie books too. You are bringing back sweet memories of fun studies that we enjoyed through the years. I loved every moment!
For your supplies, you can find some great deals out there. I am sure that there are great specials that I am clueless about, but one of my favorite places to purchase my supplies has always been Sam’s Discount Warehouse. I have a membership. I have bought supplies like cardstock paper (they have a nice, quality cardstock there that is perfect for all of your projects), file folders (they have plain and colored folders), glue stick, markers, notebooks, sheet protectors, paper edgers (scissors), gel pens, etc. I find that the products that they carry are usually the best quality. I buy them up in bulk. Then, we have them to use for projects all along the way. Just having them on hand helped to encourage my little ones to create fun projects—even when they were having daily FREE TIME! Can’t beat having productivity when they are free to do as they please. I love it!
I have friends who have found amazing deals on supplies at the dollar store. Oh! The sky is the limit. As you dig into fun projects like this, you will find that you can create a homeschool that is a blast on a shoestring budget!
Have fun! AND…let me know if you find some great deals for your supplies.
OH! I am going to post this on my blog. Hopefully others will be able to share some great places for finding supplies. (You guys jump in and share your ideas!!)
Stay in touch sweet friend!
Love ya!
Cindy
PS! Be on the lookout! I am planning to teach a Crash Course on Notebooking during the UHSE. During that session, I will give you some more ideas on notebooking.
