Cindy,
I follow your parenting tips and think lots of us are concerned not only about quantity of screen time but obviously quality – especially now that kids can get to the web on our phones, the iPod Touch devices, etc. I am friends with a software developer team who have 7 kids among them, and they recently created a new iPhone app (works w/Touch too) that is a “safe” browser. It filters automatically the bad sites like adult content, guns, gambling, as well as stuff like YouTube, etc. It also has a long list of fun, appropriate and human-vetted kid-safe sites, divided into categories. Parents can set usage limits, view usage and get email reports on what kids are doing. Parents also can add sites to the “safe” list.
Don’t know about you but I don’t want my elementary-age daughter viewing adult content on my phone! Website is www.surfbalance.com if anyone might be interested in learning more.
Mom to mom, thanks. anne
